Not-for-profit organisations can apply for up to £250 from the South Wye Community Pride Fund to help them purchase equipment, pay for fund raising activities or organise events.
Families at St Martin’s Primary School have already profited from the funding as the Friends of St Martin’s School received a grant to purchase child-sized fitness equipment so that parents and children could “work out” together as part of a family fitness campaign.
Many groups from the South Wye visit Dinedor Outdoor Centre on a regular basis, and as a result, the Centre was given a grant to help them build a special outdoor kitchen for use during bad weather.
The fund is made up from donations from local businesses and is administered by the Delegated Grants Team at Herefordshire Council on behalf of Herefordshire Voluntary Action.
Cathy Arthurs, Delegated Grants and Programmes Officer, said: “We’re encouraging as many groups as possible to apply for this funding, and are happy to talk through ideas with people and help with applications.
“We’ve already seen some of the benefits it can bring to families in the South Wye
“Applicants need to find at least 25% of the costs themselves, but this can be ‘in-kind’, rather than in actual money.”
The next deadline for applications is November 1, 2006 – application forms can be obtained from the Delegated Grants Team on (01432) 260753.
