Furry fish and tailed toads in local libraries

12 October 2006

Wouldn’t it be fun if fish were furry, or toads had tails, or lions could be crossed with snails? Well, anything’s possible in the world of creative writing!

Sara-Jane Arbury, Herefordshire’s Writer in Residence, will be leading a family writing workshop in Ross library, on Monday 23rd October, where families can create an imaginary menagerie of disorderly animals.

This follows hot on the heels of a visit by Zoolab: an opportunity for children to handle and learn more about real-life snakes and stick insects, toads and tarantulas.

Zoolab starts at 1.30pm, followed by the writing workshop at 2.45pm and is one of a number of free events organised by Herefordshire Libraries for Family Learning Week 7th-28th October.  Other events include:

  • Zoolab at Leominster Library on 24th October
  • Painting a huge beautiful abstract picture to hang in the Children’s Library - at Ross Library on Wednesday 25th October 10.30am - 1pm with artist Carl Arroyo.
  • Making Felt Insects at Hereford Library Wednesday 25th October 3-4pm and at Leominster Library Friday 27th Oct 11am-12 noon
  • Bringing the story of Chicken-Licken to life at a craft session led by artist Sarah Stanley at Belmont Library on Thursday 26th Oct 10.30am-11.30am  & at Hereford Library Thursday 26th Oct 2-3pm.

Places are limited so advanced booking is recommended.

Additional events organised for Family Learning Week include:

  • Food Fun at The Smile Centre, St Martin’s Primary School, 23-25 October 10.30am-12.30pm
  • Freaky Photos: Draw me in! at Hereford Museum and Art Gallery, 24 and 27th October 10am-3pm
