The public footpath which runs through the school grounds, used to get very muddy and waterlogged in winter, causing problems getting to and from school.
The flow of children and parents with muddy feet meant the school was constantly battling to keep clean.
Local parishioners responded to a questionnaire asking what work they would like to see undertaken in their area.
As a result, the Council’s Public Rights of Way network commissioned Herefordshire Jarvis Services to tarmac the path under its Rights of Way Improvement Plan.
Now parents and children will have a drier walk to school and a cleaner school to learn in.
The new improved surface also provides a safer route to the bus stop for local villagers as the route eliminates the risk of having to use a busy road junction.
Mrs Thomas, Acting headteacher from Mordiford School said: “The mud from the path was causing quite a problem for the school so we’re delighted with the new footpath.
“It provides safe and easy access to our school for pupils and parents, and has made a big difference to the school environment.
Vince Playdon, Area Rights of Way Officer, said: “We’re constantly listening to Parish Councils and Path User Groups, and have a range of other requests to work on over the next few months.”
“Plans for improvements include replacing more stiles with gates for disabled access purposes, fitting more dog-friendly stiles, and creating new footpaths to link existing paths.”
“We’re delighted to have been able to work with the local community to bring about this improvement and will continue to listen and respond to public requests.”
