A company from Builth Wells has bought the building for £135,000.
The 19th Century Chapel was originally acquired by the Leominster District Council, and over the last few years feasibility studies have looked at whether the chapel could be revamped to provide a youth hostel, a library, a children’s centre or mixed commercial and community use.
The costs of converting the building meant that each scheme was unviable, so with rising maintenance and repairs costs, the council’s cabinet agreed to sell the building earlier this year.
Cllr Mike Wilson, Cabinet Member (Resources), said: “We’re delighted with this sale. The Council believes the sale is in the best interests of council tax payers as the building had become expensive to maintain and repair.
“No formal planning application has been received to date, so we don’t know what the chapel will be used for at the moment.
“We hope that any future developments will be undertaken sympathetically and with the community in mind.”
