Cadbury's food alert

26 June 2006

In line with other local authorities, Herefordshire Council’s Environmental Health Officers have been contacting shops to ensure shelves have been cleared of a range of Cadbury chocolate products.

The move follows the recall, on Friday last week, of seven products by Cadbury’s due to concerns they may be contaminated with salmonella.

Hundreds of retail food outlets will have been contacted in the county and officers have been busy checking that the products have been taken off the shelves and withdrawn from sale.

The products involved are:

· 250g Dairy Milk Turkish
· 250g Dairy Milk Caramel
· 250g Dairy Milk Mint bars
· Dairy Milk 8 Chunk
· 1kg Dairy Milk bar
· 105g Dairy Milk Buttons Easter Egg
· 10p Freddo bar

Herefordshire Council is also the food authority for food factories and other food businesses in Herefordshire, so officers have begun an investigation into the Salmonella contamination.

“We’re working closely with the Foot Standards Agency,” said Andy Tector, Herefordshire Council’s Head of Environmental Health and Trading Standards.

“Officers have already visited Cadbury’s Marlbrook site. One of the lines of inquiry will include establishing when the company first discovered the outbreak.

“However, we cannot prejudice the investigation by commenting further at this stage,” he added.

Herefordshire Council’s Environmental Health team regularly inspects food factories and business sites across the county – a routine inspection at Cadbury’s Marlbrook site was scheduled to take place this month.
