New signs have been put up on the main roads into the city proudly announcing the city’s relationship to the two towns.
The erection of the signs, paid for jointly by Hereford City Council and Herefordshire Council, is timely with visits of delegates from the two cities due to be welcomed to Hereford in coming weeks and months.
“These signs not only alert motorists that they’re entering Hereford City, but also reminds them of the links we have established with our European cousins in Germany and France,” said Cllr Brian Wilcox, Herefordshire Council’s Cabinet Member (Highways and Transportation).
“We’re delighted to have worked with Hereford City Council on this project to ensure the city’s European connections are displayed to visitors.”
Cllr Marcelle Llloyd-Hayes, Mayor of Hereford, was equally pleased with the new signs.
“The timing couldn’t be better with the signs going up just a day before the arrival of civic guests from our twin town of Dillenburg.
“Our links with the city’s of Dillenburg and Vierzon benefit Hereford in a number of ways and we’re proud to let visitors know. These new signs put us on the European map,” added Cllr Lloyd-Hayes.
Michael Lotz, Burgermeister (Mayor) of Dillenburg, was impressed when he saw the signs and said they looked good standing at the gateways to the city proudly proclaiming the link between Hereford and his home city.
