Have your say on planned 20MPH zone

15 May 2006

Residents who live near Hereford’s St Thomas Cantilupe School are being invited to have a look at, and have their say about, plans for a 20mph zone outside the school.

Herefordshire Council is to hold a public exhibition for the planned St Thomas Cantilupe 20mph zone scheme on Tuesday next week, May 23.

The exhibition will be held in the St John Ambulance County HQ, in nearby Widemarsh Street, and will run from 10.30am to 7.30pm.

The exhibition will provide details of the Council's proposed 20mph speed limit which is scheduled for construction later this year.

“The scheme forms part of the Council’s Local Transport Plan initiative to introduce 20mph zones outside schools,” said Cllr Brian Wilcox, Cabinet Member (Highways and Transportation).

“We know that reducing the speed of traffic outside schools saves lives, but we want to make sure we get it right. We need the thoughts and views of local residents so I’d encourage as many as possible to pop along to have their say,” added Cllr Wilcox.

Visitors to the exhibition will be able to quiz staff from the Council. Its consultants will be available at the exhibition to explain the Council's proposals and answer any questions.

Questionnaires have been distributed locally prior to the event and can be obtained at the exhibition. These can be used by residents to submit their comments to Herefordshire Council regarding these proposals.

Further information can be obtained from Mairead Lane on (01432) 260944.
