Learn to kayak and sail this Easter break

27 March 2006

Herefordshire Youth Service are offering the chance for young people aged 13 to 19 to take part in some exciting outdoor activities during the Easter Holidays.

The first week, April 10-14, will offer three one day courses in kayaking which they will have the opportunity to gain their British Canoe Union one star award.

The cost is £5 per day and will be based at the Canoe Centre in Hereford.

Nick James-Williams, Trainee Youth Worker, Outdoor Education said:  “As well as meet new friends, learn new skills and have loads of fun, there will be the opportunity for any one star paddler to attend a river trip down the River Wye at the end of the week.

“The one day, one star courses will run on the Monday to Wednesday and then river trips Thursday and Friday.”

Young people need their one star to attend the river trip.

April 19-21 offers a three-day Royal Yachting Association (RYA) sailing course where young people can gain an RYA stage one.

Based at Bodenham Sailing Centre, young people will sail through the course learning new techniques like tacking and how to capsize a boat. Transport from Hereford City to Bodenham and back can be arranged.

The sailing course needs to be attended fully to gain the RYA stage one and the cost is £15.

All activities are run by qualified and experienced staff from Herefordshire Youth Service.

Spaces must be booked in advance. Those Interested can contact the Outdoor Education Team on 01432 260212 or njwilliams@herefordshire.gov.uk
