Wheels in motion for skate park

22 March 2006

The wheels are in motion for a new skate park for youngsters in Hereford after Herefordshire Council agreed to consider freeing up land for the development.

The authority would waive the £10,000 income it could collect each year on the former Denco car park site on Holmer Road, and lease the land over to the Parish of Hereford City Council for it to run as a skate park for local youngsters.

A report recommending the move is due to go to Cabinet on Thursday next week, March 30.

Cllr Roger Phillips, Leader of Herefordshire Council, said: "Herefordshire Council is delighted to play its part in providing what will be an exciting new recreational facility for young People in Hereford

"This project demonstrates what can be achieved by working together in partnership for the benefit of local communities.

"Under the partnership, Herefordshire Council will agree to free up land at the former car park site to Hereford City Council. This will allow the development to go ahead.

"The City Council will be responsible for the running and maintenance of the facility,” added Cllr Phillips.
