The Book Festival, starts on Monday, March 20 and runs until Thursday, March 30, and will hold sessions at the TownHall and Shirehall, Hereford, Ross Library and also in some schools.
The festival features old faces and new with six performance poets, writers, story tellers and illustrators bringing literature to life for Herefordshire youngsters.
“We want children to learn that literature is fun and lively and there to be enjoyed by everyone,” said Rosemarie Fleming, Schools Library Service Librarian.
“All the artists appearing at the festival are excellent and really know how to connect with the children and make their work exciting. All the sessions will be lively and interactive.
“This is an ideal opportunity to promote literature to children who go away full of enthusiasm and keen to write their own work,” added Rosemarie.
Artists appearing at the Festival are: Eric Maddern, Shoo Rayner, Valerie Bloom, Brian Moses, Geraldine McCaughrean and Chris White.
Eric Maddern is an Australian born singer, songwriter, author and storyteller. He weaves his music and story together seamlessly and has a great way of engaging children.
Shoo Rayner has appeared at the festival before and is probably one of the most read authors in the country, to date he’s written 91 books. He’ll entertain pupils by telling some of his stories and explaining how he writes and illustrates his books.
Both Valerie Bloom and Brian Moses are performance poets, editors and writers-in-schools. Both have performed extensively in schools and Valerie has appeared at festivals such as Hay and Cheltenham.
Geraldine McCaughrean has written over 130 books and plays for adults and children. Her writing has won her numerous awards including the Guardian Children’s Fiction Award, Whitebread Children’s Book of the Year (three times in three decades) and the Carnegie Medal.
Chris White is a performance poet and illustrator, his performances are always highly entertaining.
All sessions must be booked through schools.
