Final livestock meeting

07 March 2006

The last in a series of “conversations with the public” over the re-siting of Hereford Livestock Market will be held at the city’s Town Hall, next Wednesday (March 15), at 7.30pm.

Herefordshire Council wants to relocate the market from its current Edgar Street base as part of a multi-million pound project to regenerate the City Centre.

Six sites have been identified as possible locations for the new market.

These locations, as well as other detailed information relating to the relocation, can be viewed on the Herefordshire Livestock Market web page.

To date four meetings have already been held. During these meetings members of the public have been able to listen and have their say on issues relating to sites.

A final summary of those complex issues will be heard during next week’s meeting at the Town Hall.

Following the meeting Cllr Charles Mayson, Cabinet Member (Rural Regeneration and Small Holdings) will make a recommendation to Cabinet. Cabinet will then make a final decision.

“The relocation of the existing livestock market from the Edgar Street Grid is essential for the regeneration of Hereford city centre and we have fully engaged the public in this important decision,” he said.

“By consulting with residents, businesses, parish councils, county marketeers and other interested parties they are able to have their say on where the new cattle market should be relocated to.”
