Hereford's Christmas lights repaired

06 December 2005

Herefordshire Council and its partners have moved swiftly to repair the City’s Christmas lights after a delivery vehicle accidentally damaged a supporting pole.

The lights were in danger of collapsing to the ground after the vehicle bumped into the supporting pole, in High Town, on Wednesday, November 30, around 8.30am.

Herefordshire Council, and its partners Herefordshire Jarvis Services and consultants Owen Williams, were on the scene immediately after the alarm was raised.

Specialist contractors erected scaffolding around the pole to support the hanging lights and repairs were made.

Cllr Brian Wilcox, Cabinet Member (Highways and Transportation) said: “Our contractors HJS and Owen Williams as well as Herefordshire Council deserve credit for reacting so quickly and efficiently to this problem.

“The lights were made safe and the pole was replaced within hours of the damage happening.

“The public continued to go about their Christmas shopping as if nothing had happened and the lights went on as usual that night.”
