Belmont Library consultation

11 November 2005

Belmont Library could be open for an extra three hours a week under proposals currently being considered by Herefordshire Council’s Libraries Service.

Under the proposals the library, on Eastholme Avenue, Hereford, would open at 9.30am on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays - 30 minutes earlier than present.

The library could also open on Friday mornings but close at 5pm instead of 7pm.

Now the public are being asked their views on the proposals as part of a two-month consultation.

Questionnaires are available at Belmont Library as well as Hereford Library.

Currently the opening hours are:

Tuesday  10am-1pm & 2pm-5pm
Thursday  10am-1pm & 2pm-5pm
Friday   2pm-4.30pm & 5pm-7pm
Saturday  10am-1pm
Closed Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays

Proposal:

Tuesday  9.30am-1pm & 2pm-5pm
Thursday  9.30am-1pm & 2pm-5pm
Friday   9.30am-1pm & 2pm-5pm
Saturday  10am-1pm
Closed Sundays, Mondays and Wednesdays

Cllr Roy Stockton, Cabinet Member (Community Services), said: “If adopted, these changes would increase the number of opening hours from 19½ to 22½ and streamline times.”

Visitor numbers at Belmont Library on Friday evenings have decreased with the onset of winter and the extended opening of Hereford Library, which is now open until 7.30pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Herefordshire Council welcomes any feedback over the proposed time changes and if anyone wishes to comment in person please contact Kate Murray on 01432 383602 or email kmurray@herefordshire.gov.uk.
