Young people's arts celebrated

07 November 2005

During the half term, nearly 100 young people from across the county came together at Ledbury Youth Centre to take part in Artsfest, organised by Herefordshire Council’s Community Youth Services.

Artsfest was a celebration of a huge variety of arts projects and achievements that have taken place in Youth Centres across Herefordshire over the past year – it coincided with National Youth Weeks theme of 'enjoying and achieving'.

The festival gave young people the opportunity to take part in a huge range of arts, music and dance workshops from pole-lathe turning to hip-hop workshops. Live music was performed by young rock bands in the evening.

“It was a fantastic event and showcased what a vibrant and enthusiastic group of young people we have in Herefordshire,” said Jon Ralph, Herefordshire Council’s Community Youth Service Manager.

Artsfest brought together a huge variety of organisations which have been working with the County’s young people.

The Music Pool provided drumming and hip-hop workshops and Dancefest hosted a street dance workshop.

Bods provided the pole-lathe turning and making witches brooms workshops.

There was also an exhibition of film-work, jewellery and sculpture created by the participants in collaboration with Ross Creative Learning Centre, The Courtyard, Herefordshire Council’s Cultural Services, Catcher Media and local artists.

Ledbury Youth Centre is open on Monday & Wednesday pm - 9pm for more info contact Pippa Hart, Area Worker on 01531 632301.
