The first in a series of public meetings has been called at Stretton Sugwas Primary School, on Thursday, October 13, at 7.30pm, when officers and Cllr Charles Mayson, Cabinet Member (Rural Regeneration and Strategy), will spell out the Council’s position and explain the need for a new cattle market.
Herefordshire Council had identified a preferred site at Stretton Sugwas for the relocation of the cattle market from its current Edgar Street location.
But that has been deferred while a full public consultation is carried out to discuss the merits of six possible sites, including the Stretton Sugwas location.
The other sites identified include Hospital Farm at Burghill, the Quarry site, Sugwas Farm, a plot near Barnsfield Drive, a site half way along Roman Road plus the original preferred site opposite Stretton Sugwas School.
A programme of regular public meetings will be held to discuss the merits of each site and members of the public will be invited.
This public meeting is the first stage in a process of two-way consultation called for by Cllr Charles Mayson, Cabinet Member (Rural Regeneration and Strategy).
Cllr Charles Mayson said: “The relocation of the existing livestock market from the Edgar Street grid is essential for the regeneration of Hereford city centre and we want to fully engage the public in this important decision.
“By consulting with residents, businesses, parish councils, county marketeers and other interested parties will be able to have their say on where the new cattle market should be relocated to.
“The views of all are welcome and we want to hear your voice”.
