They have beaten off strong competition from all over the country to take their place alongside High Street chains Marks and Spencer and Ikea in this year’s LABC National Built in Quality Awards, at The Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, on Thursday October 20.
The Council and Hereford-based I.E. Developments have been short-listed alongside five other hopefuls in the Best Partnership with a Client or Housebuilder category for the Barton West development.
Under the scheme, on the site formerly occupied by the Antelope public house in Barton Road, Hereford, a four-storey contemporary apartment block containing 12 two-bedroom apartments was built.
The highest quality materials were used in the design including an aluminium standing seam metal roof, aluminium powder coated windows and doors and specially rendered external walls.
The apartments sold for £190,000-plus and the development was so popular that all the properties had sold before they were finished.
Chris Jenner, Acting Building Control Manager, said: “The Barton Road development is a shining example of how partnerships between the private sector and local authority can work.
“The development is to the highest spec and illustrates how new and old can blend in an harmonious way. We are delighted to receive this recognition from the LABC.”
Tim Evans, Managing Director of I.E. Developments, added: “Our Barton West development has proven to be one of the most successful projects in the companies 24 year history and I am especially happy to say that we have 12 delighted owners.
“This was a classic brownfield site redevelopment project which has revitalised what was a run down and derelict pocket of land within an important Conservation area.
“This is the second time Barton West has been acknowledged since completing this project, winning the West of England NHBC ‘Pride in Job’ award in the multi-storey category in 2004.”
