Boost your confidence with free cycling lessons

29 September 2005

Herefordshire Council is offering free cycling lessons to adults in a bid to encourage more cycling.

One-to-one sessions, which normally cost £20, are available from professional instructors for a limited period.

Training is tailored to individual needs. Sessions can cover everything from guidance on choosing a suitable bike and advice on route selection as well as comprehensive training in all elements of on-road cycling.

Training takes place on local roads, near to participants’ homes or workplaces to build confidence and skills on regular journeys.

Sessions can be held the within the locality of cyclists’ homes.

Judith Whateley, Sustainable Travel, said: “To encourage more cycling in the county, Herefordshire Council is supporting a programme of adult cycle training.

“We are all familiar with the phrase that you never forget how to ride a bike but the problem is that many people lose confidence in their ability to cycle.

“Over time road conditions change and many people need some reassurance before they can get back in the saddle again.

“These sessions are aimed at anyone wanting to cycle, whatever their level, from complete beginners looking for a solid grounding in the basics, to experienced cyclists with specific queries.”
