Cllr Charles Mayson, Cabinet Member (Rural Regeneration and Strategy), made the announcement at today’s (Mon, Sept 26) meeting of the Council’s Strategic Monitoring Committee.
He told members that since he had taken up the role to press forward with the issue two weeks ago, two further suitable sites he would like to be considered have been identified. He added that other sites which had previously been looked at should also be revisited as part of the comprehensive review of all possible locations.
“I intend to carry out this process in a transparent manner which will allow all interested parties to contribute to the debate.
“This will include detailed consultation with local communities, market auctioneers and agricultural and associated businesses in the county.
“Having only been in the post for a couple of weeks, I’m aware this is an enormous, but key task, and I will begin immediately by drawing up a detailed consultation plan which will give everyone the opportunity to help us make the right decision.”
At today’s meeting of the Committee he also invited its members to suggest any additional sites they consider should be examined.
“Once we have the list of possible sites, we shall make them entirely open for public view and discussion.”
Cllr Mayson added: “I should like to distance myself, and Herefordshire Council, from the negative and censorious comments recently directed at the Duchy of Cornwall”.
