The new Ball Court at Waterfield Road, in Hereford, will then be used for an inaugural basketball tournament organised by Jo Tomlins a Community Action Youth Worker and featuring a guest appearance by the Hereford Hawks Basketball Team.
The Hereford Hawks will be coaching young players during the afternoon of fun, which will help to raise awareness of the facility among the young people living locally, and all the participants in the opening tournament will receive a certificate to mark the occasion.
The Herefordshire Council Youth Service Fun Bus will also be on site with lots of activities for children to take part in and Junk Percussion will provide music throughout the event.
Fran White, Herefordshire Council Parks Development Manager, said: “We are very pleased to have been able to provide this excellent new multi-use games area in Hereford which has been funded by the South Hereford Area Regeneration Project (SHARP) in partnership with Herefordshire Council, and grants from Living Spaces, Awards For All, Community Pride and the Healthy Schools Partnership.
“The Ball Court has been marked out for a range of ball games so we hope local people will be able to enjoy playing anything from basketball to kick-about football to netball throughout the summer holidays and in the future.” she added.
