Working in partnership for the people of Herefordshire

Musical Production at Ross

Budding singers, actors, musicians and people with an interest in behind-the-scenes activities such as lighting are wanted for a musical to be held at the Ross Youth Centre later this year.

Young people from Ross and the surrounding area will have the chance to take part in a musical production during the autumn, based on a script and songs by visiting artists Jo Bates and Margie Douglas. Jo recently ran the Pop Vox singing workshops for young people in Ross.

An information day will be held at Y-Zone, also known as the Ross Youth Centre, Sunday April 27, at 2pm, for anyone wanting to get involved.

Marion Campbell, Herefordshire Council Project Development Officer, said: “We’re looking for a range of people from actors, singers and dancers to stagehands, lighting/sound technicians, costume and set designers.

“The musical, which is called Zephyrana’s Song, is a fantasy based on themes of water, wind and fire.

“This is the first time the Youth Centre has put on a musical. It’s being supported by funding from Leader + Herefordshire Rivers and the river theme will be highlighted through contributions from those taking part in the workshops,” she added.

The musical is part of the development of the Ross Creative Learning Centre which will provide specialist facilities for performance, music and the visual arts when work starts later in the year.

During May, June and July the centre will be running workshops in a number of areas including singing, song-writing, dancing, acting, scripting, lighting, sound, costumes and sets depending on what is needed.

Whether you already have experience on the stage or would like to try something new, come along to the information day.
