Working in partnership for the people of Herefordshire

Free Arrow Valley Lecture

A leading archaeological scientist will be in the county on Friday, April 25th, for a lecture on the history and future of the Arrow Valley.

Professor Mark Macklin is part of a team seeking to unlock the secrets of the Valley.

His presentation will cover the historical development of the Arrow Valley from when people began to live there after the last Ice Age, 12 000 years ago, up until the present day.

“Dynamic and Traumatic: Recent Earth History in River Valleys” is at the
Eardisland Village Hall at 7.30pm.

The talk aims to raise the awareness of the rich archaeological heritage and improve the understanding of its vulnerability

Prof. Macklin, from the University of Wales, and his team will be studying the Arrow Valley as part of the Arrow Valley Archaeology, Landscape Change and Conservation Project.

The project is a joint effort from the Council’s archaeology service - Herefordshire Archaeology - and the Arrow Valley Farmers who together want to investigate, celebrate and preserve historical sites along the Valley.

The project is supported by “LEADER+Herefordshire Rivers Project” – partly funded through DEFRA and the European Union, and is also funded through grant-aid from English Heritage.
