Away For the Postal Vote?

If you want your postal vote for the forthcoming Herefordshire elections mailed to an address other than your home, you need to contact the Council straight away.

The Council will begin mailing out the ballot papers to people's home starting on Tuesday next week, April 15.

However, the team can post ballot papers to electors anywhere in the UK - it doesn't have to be their home address - so long as they inform the Council before 5pm this Friday, April 11.

"It's a very simple process," said Steve Oram, the Council's Public Services Manager.

"Anyone who will not be at their home for a week or two starting around the middle of April may miss the opportunity to vote. Because of this, we can post people's ballot papers to any address in the UK.

"However, if someone is going to be overseas, we suggest that they apply for a proxy vote - which means someone else can vote on their behalf," added Steve.

"Because the ballot papers will start going out on Tuesday, April 15, the latest anyone can request that their ballot paper be sent to a location other than their home address is this Friday, April 11.

"All you have to do is fill in a short form and make sure we receive it by 5pm this Friday, April 11," added Steve.

The forms are available from a number of places - they can be picked up from one of the Council's Info Shops or can be downloaded from the authority's website - www.herefordshire.gov.uk.
