More than 700 people took advantage of Herefordshire Council’s Park and Ride during the first two weeks and with just three more Saturday’s before the New Year hundreds more are expected to jump on board.
Shoppers can choose free parking at two sites in the outskirts of Hereford and enjoy a comfortable bus ride for a nominal fare to the heart of the town.
The service delivers you “door-to door” direct from your car to the Hereford’s shopping hub, saving you the stress of searching for a parking spot along congested streets.
Cllr Mike Wilson, Cabinet Member Highways and Transportation, said: “Whether it’s buying presents or snapping up those post Christmas bargains, hop on board the Park and Ride for your next Saturday shopping trip.
“We’ve kept the prices at last year’s level so the it’s a cheap and convenient way to get into the Hereford’s shopping hub without the hassle.
“Not only does it make shopping a more pleasurable experience but it helps cut down congestion in the city which benefits everybody.
The Park-and-Ride sites are:
· Denco Car Park to the north of the city on the A49 (Holmer Road)
· Grafton site, on the A49 (Ross Road)
Buses run every 15 minutes, starting at 9am, with the last return bus leaving the city centre at 5.50pm. Fares are £1 per adult, with a maximum fare of £2 per car.
A total of 778 people used the service on the first two Saturdays of operation - 288 on Saturday, November 22, and 490 on November 29.
The remaining dates for Park and Ride 2003 are December 13, 20 and 27.
