Reduction for disabled people

Your bill may be reduced if your home has certain features which are essential to the well being of a disabled person living there, whether they are an adult or a child.

The features are:
  • A room used mainly by the disabled person, such as an extension or an extra room for storing dialysis equipment, or a bedroom on the ground floor in a dwelling that has more than one floor, or
  • An additional bathroom or kitchen for the use of the disabled person, or
  • Extra space inside the dwelling to allow for the use of a wheelchair

Your bill will be reduced to the equivalent of a property in the valuation band immediately below the listed band of your property, so if your property is in band E, you will be charged as if it were in band D.

Properties in band A may also qualify. The relief is calculated at 1/9th of the band D charge.

You can download an application form for the reduction, at the foot of the page.

Forms are also available by telephoning (01432) 260360 or from any INFO in Herefordshire point (there is one in each market town).

All applications must be made in writing and sent to the Tax and Rates Section, P.O. Box 224, Hereford, HR1 2XW, or you can email us at counciltax@herefordshire.gov.uk
