2001 Census
The last census of population took place on April 29th 2001 and was carried out by the Office for National Statistics. Population estimates for Herefordshire were released at the end of September 2002.
Key Statistics for the County were released in February 2003 and for Wards and Output Areas (small areas of about 125 households) in July 2003 (see 'Key Statistics' below). No information was released for Parishes until March 2004, and what is available depends on the size of the parish, but the Research Team compiled parish profiles using output areas. Please contact us for these.
Census population counts for wards and parishes are available to download from the box below, but more recent estimates can be found in the 'Population' section.
More information on a county level was released in May 2003, including data relating to particular groups (theme tables), tables looking at one factor e.g. marital status and cross-tabulated data (standard tables). These are all listed below (see 'Additional Census information').
Origin-Destination tables of migration and workplace flows were obtained in 2005, and an analysis of where Herefordshire's workers live and where Herefordshire's residents work is available to download from the first box below.
Additional Census information
The following information is available and a full list of tables can be downloaded from the second box below.
The types of tables are:
- Theme tables: data relating to particular groups e.g. children, older people
- Univariate tables: tables looking at one factor e.g. age, marital status, broken down into various categories
- Standard tables (county and ward level only): which cross tabulate data from the Census under various themes such as access to services, health and care.
- Census Area Statistics (output area/parish level): these are similar to standard tables with slightly broader categories to protect individual identities for small areas.
