Herefordshire Council Constitution

All major councils are required by law to prepare and keep up to date a Constitution. The Constitution explains and regulates how the Council operates, how decisions are made and the procedures which are followed to ensure that these are efficient, transparent and accountable to local people.

This Constitution builds on the Council's original arrangements adopted in 1999 and combines all the governance provisions a council is required by law to adopt, together with its traditional standing orders.

The Constitution is divided into fourteen parts and currently has twenty three appendices, which provide further information.

In the Resource boxes below are the most up to date versions of the Constitution and its appendices.
