Paul Keetch was elected to Parliament as the MP for Hereford on 1 May 1997 and was subsequently re-elected on 7 June 2001, and again on 5 May 2005.
He is the Liberal Democrat Party Whip. After resigning his post on the Liberal Democrat Shadow Cabinet in 2005 he became a member of the Foreign Affairs Select Committee, which is an all party parliamentary body. In 2007 he made the decision that, due to his health, he would not be standing at the next general election.

He was promoted to Shadow Secretary of State for Wales in November 2003, previously he was the Shadow Minister for the Environment.
The MP continues to be a Member of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee, which he joined in 2002.
