Records management

The records management service creates retention schedules which detail the recommended minimum lengths of time that different types of records should be kept by the council. The schedules apply to both paper and electronic records and show when these records can be destroyed, in order to comply with relevant legislation and operational needs.

The modern records unit is part of the records management service. The unit provides storage facilities for records that need to be kept, but which are no longer current and used frequently by departments. This reduces the amount of storage required in offices.

For further information about the records management service please contact the team via rms@herefordshire.gov.uk or tel: 01432 260500.

A copy of the council's records management policy is available below.

A copy of the council's general retention schedule is also available below, it includes details of some of the main types of records created and held by the Council.  In practice we produce  more detailed team specific retention schedules for use within the Council.  If you would like further details on the retention of any specific records created by the council please contact the records management service.
