CAF Practitioner Training and Briefings
We have plenty of CAF training days running from the Autumn term 2009 right through into 2010! You will need this training to carry out CAF Assessments.

Please call the CAF Adminstrator on 01432 260885 to discuss availability and make a provisional booking. You will then be sent an application form to confirm the booking.

We are also offering CAF Briefings to teams who would like to know more about the CAF process but who will not need to carry out CAF assessments. Please call to discuss your needs.

Common Assessment Framework (CAF)

children
  • The Common Assessment will ensure that a child or young person with additional needs only has to tell their story once.
  • The lead professional will be one point of contact and co-ordinate a family support plan.
  • An information sharing protocol will ensure that information is shared appropriately and safely

CAF is the only assessment that can be used by practitioners in all agencies in England that deliver service to children and young people. It covers all aspects that affect a child's development from health, education and social development, through to housing and family relationships.

News

We are now able to offer you three e-learning modules to access for free. You only need access to the internet to get started. The titles of the three modules are:

- CAF

- Lead Professional

- Integrated working

If you want to try the modules, please email the CAF-info address and we will send you the login details. Each module takes about 1 hour to complete.

New Developments in CAF - ECM Cards

The CAF Team have now developed a free visual resource for you to use when working with Children and Famililes.  The ECM cards are linked to the Every Child Matters Agenda and can work in conjunction with the CAF Form. If you look at the resource section below you will see the ECM cards and discussion sheets.  If you would like any further information or training on how best to use the cards, please contact Sara-Jane Sheehy.

CAF training and refresher Sessions

We have lots of CAF training dates and half day refresher sessions organised for 2010. Please phone up our team for the most up to date information.

If you feel that you’d like a recap or discussion about the CAF process and how it relates to your own agency/setting, please contact CAF Admin on 01432 260 885 to organise a meeting with a member of our team.

Locality Teams

The CAF implementation workers are now working in specific locality areas.  Sara-Jane Sheehy is working in the SOUTH of the countyChris Gough in the NORTH of the county.  Please contact your CAF advisors who will be able to help you in your area.

We also have a CAF implementation worker working closely with the social care referral and assessment team. Wendy Drew supports practitioners who want to do a CAF after contact with social care.

CAF Time-scales For Good Practice

In order to ensure that CAF remains a tool for early intervention we advise that, when undertaking a CAF, you adhere to the following time-scales:

  • CAF Forms should be completed within 20 working days of a CAF being logged with the CAF Registry.
  • If the process leads to a Team Around the Child meeting, the initial meeting should be held as soon as is convenient, but no more than 15 working days after the completion of the assessment.

Remember if you have any questions or require help at any time, be it face-to-face or on the phone, please contact the CAF Team on 01432 260 885.

CAF Supporting Tool

In the resources box below you can download a useful supporting tools document which includes an example of a completed Common Assessment (page 7).

CAF Practitioner Training will be freely on offer throughout Herefordshire to those who work with children. Basic Briefing will also be available to a very wide range of stakeholders - not just those working directly with children. We are making a special effort to ensure that as many people as possible get the opportunity to find out more about this exciting new initiative.

To find out more about briefings and courses in your part of Herefordshire, call the CAF Information Point on 01432 260885.
