Protecting vulnerable children and young people

People's services have a responsibility to safeguard and promote the welfare and safety of all children. We are committed to hearing the views of children, young people and families as a core part of our work.

If you are concerned about a child or young person's safety or wellbeing please don't assume that someone else will take responsibility. You could help to save someone's life:

  • If you are worried about someone aged under 18 click here to find out how to report it.
  • If you are worried about someone aged 18 and over, please contact Adult Safeguarding on 01432 260715 (weekdays 9-5) or 0330 1239309 (out of office hours including weekends and public holidays).

Where we believe that a young person or child appears to be at risk of harm, we have a duty by law to investigate their situation. We talk to the child or young person, their family and all of those agencies who are directly involved.

There are a number of teams that work in the Safeguarding and Vulnerable Children's Division:

  • Family Assessment and Safeguarding Team
  • Children in Need Teams
  • Looked after Children Team
  • Fostering and Adoption Teams
  • Children with Disabilities
