Ross-on-Wye Bandstand/ Stage

Begun in the summer of 2003, the Ross Lion's Outdoor Pursuits Building was held up by repeated setbacks, but was finally completed in 2004. Delays had been caused by lengthy waits for planning permission and the right weather, although the confidence in the scheme remained strong.

The building is sited in the Caroline Symonds Gardens, adjacent to the riverside of the Wye. It is managed by Ross Town Council.

Another purpose for this outdoor stage was to encourage young and old alike to use the space for performances. For example, this project and the Young People's Arts project collaborated to utilise the space productively, as well as other groups, such as:

  • The Ross Town Band
  • John Kyrle High School orchestra and drama group
  • The Lions Club
  • The International Festival Fringe Theatre
  • Ross Carnival Committee
  • Other local and visiting bands

The building was designed to enhance the riverside area with the provision of a facility that will be used to provide entertainment in all art forms for all the people who use the riverside for their leisure. It is expected that the additional entertainment provided will bring in many visitors, making greater use of the riverside and also the town of Ross, as well as benefiting the area economically, enhancing tourism alongside culture.
