The partnership ceremony

The Civil Partnership Act allows same sex couples to obtain legal recognition of their relationship.

Civil Partnership status allows same sex couples over 16 (16-18 years will need consent) and not related to each other, to make their partnership legal and official. Couples can enjoy the same rights over pensions, death duties, next of kin, life assurance, maintenance and child support, tax etc as married couples. Some people may wish to change their surname to their partners or may wish to hyphenate their names. The passport agency, DVLA or other government departments will accept a civil partnership certificate as evidence for changing names as they do with a marriage certificate.

A civil partnership ceremony can take place at one of our registration offices or other premises approved by Herefordshire Council (e.g. a hotel). You should first contact our ceremony co-ordinator to check availability. For a ceremony in approved premises, you will also need to make arrangements with the venue in question.
