Documents You Will Need
- When you both attend before the Superintendent Registrar to make formal arrangements you will need to produce certain documents. For example, if you have been married before, a decree absolute of divorce bearing the Court’s original stamp, or if your previous husband or wife has died,a death certificate will be required.
- You will also need to produce either your birth certificate or a current passport. Please note that where documents are required these must be originals. Photocopies will not be acceptable.
- If you or your partner is divorced and the divorce took place in a foreign country, then we will need to see the original document issued in that country and an English translation, if the document is in a foreign language. If no documents were issued in the foreign country concerned, we will tell you what we can accept as proof of the divorce.
- If either or you is a widow or widower,we will need to see a certified copy of your spouse’s death certificate from the registration authorities of the country where they died.
Other documents may also be needed depending on the circumstances. For example, the consent of parents to a marriage will be required where one of the couple is under the age of 18 years.
- If you are not able to provide any of the above documents, the Superintendent Registrar will be able to advise you further on this matter.
