Changes can be made to your child's first name(s) in the following ways
If your child has been baptised within 12 months from the date of registration and their first names differ to those in the original birth entry contact your local registration office to obtain a form. This should be given to the minister of the church where the child was baptised for completion. You will then need an appointment to attend the register office with the completed form.
If your child has not been baptised, you can complete a
certificate of naming within 12 months from the date of
registration - contact your local registration office to
obtain a form.
If more than 12 months have elapsed since the date of
registration, you will need to provide documentation to prove
that the change of name took place within 12 months of the
birth registration (eg medical card)
The original name and the new name will be shown on a full birth certificate.
If you are unable to change your first name by either of the above methods, you could consider changing your name by Deed Poll. The original birth record will not be changed. Further information can be obtained from UK Deed Poll, the Citizen's Advice Bureau or a solicitor
