Unauthorised encampments

Where there are no temporary sites and a group arrives in an area, they will sometimes site on public space, or on private land without permission.

The Council does not have responsibility for eviction from private land - it is the primary responsibility of the land owner/user to protect their land and to resolve any problems arising from an encampment, however the Traveller Service will assist if required.  If premises are secure then the chances of an unlawful encampment occurring on the land is greatly reduced.

Further information can be found in the Council's Traveller policy which can be found at the bottom of this page.  There is also a section in the policy regarding unauthorised use of private land as a caravan site.

For further information telephone ..... or e-mail.....
