Sales To Young People

It is illegal to sell certain products to young people - cigarettes and tobacco, some categories of video, alcohol, knives, fireworks, lottery tickets and scratch cards.
There are many reasons why age limits are put on certain products. They include:
- Health problems or even death, e.g. from smoking
- Anti-social behaviour
- Violence
- Crime

Proving Your Age
We have advised retailers in Herefordshire who sell age restricted products to be aware of their obligations so you will no doubt be asked to prove your age. Don't be offended, they are only doing their job.
The easiest way for you to prove your age is by carrying one of these forms of photo ID:
- Driving Licence
- Passport
- PASS approved ID Card (please note Herefordshire Council no longer offers the PASS proof of age card)
Anyone observing underage sales can contact us in confidence on 01432 261987 or email: consumeradvice@herefordshire.gov.uk
