Garden Security

Outside in the garden, make sure rear fences are high enough to make climbing them difficult, side gates are positioned as close to the front of the house as possible and gates are kept locked at all times.

Most garden sheds are not designed for safe storage of expensive items, however if it is unavoidable, ensure they are well secured with a padlock on the door and mesh or grilles on the windows.

Equipment such as security lighting and burglar alarms will also discourage thieves from targeting your home.

For more information on garden security see the West Mercia Police website.

Nip Garden Crime In The Bud

Nip Garden Crime In The Bud!

West Mercia Police are urging green-fingered residents to help them nip garden crime in the bud this Spring by reviewing and improving their garden, shed and allotment security.

Although many people take steps to protect their homes they often leave valuable equipment in gardens and sheds, providing easy pickings for opportunist thieves.

So what are the top tips for a safer garden...

  • Keep all gates, fences and walls in a good state of repair
  • Grow prickly plants close to windows, fences, boundary walls and drainpipes
  • Don’t leave expensive equipment like garden tools, lawnmowers, mountain bikes and power tools in the shed
  • If you have nowhere else to store your valuable outdoor equipment, try to take extra measures to secure your shed
  • Don’t leave ladders and tools lying around your garden, these could come in very handy when breaking into your home!
  • Ensure your garden tools and equipment are clearly marked with your postcode

West Mercia Police have provided a useful information leaflet and warning sign, which can be downloaded from the resources box below.  Alternatively for further information and advice, please visit the West Mercia Police website.
