Drugs Intervention Programme (DIP)

The Drugs Intervention Programme works with local agencies to help adult drug using offenders to access treatment. This is with a view to reducing their offending behaviour, which is often directly related to their drug misuse.

DIP is a small dedicated team of Tier 2 Criminal Justice drug workers, working with people within the criminal justice system who experience problems with drug use.

DIP provides the following services:

• Through care - From arrest through to sentencing
• After care - Support pre and post prison release
• Out of hours advice / support line - 24 hours a day
• Drug testing facility
• Conditional cautioning

DIP supports their clients by offering:

• One to one individualised support with a mutually agreed plan of action
• Intervention providing harm reduction information and increasing motivation to change
• Assistance with accessing prescribing treatment services within Herefordshire
• Advice and assistance with available accommodation and benefit entitlement 
• Counselling referrals
• Advice with education, training and improving employability
• Links and referrals to other relevant agencies

This service often results in a whole host of positive outcomes for clients.  The main aims are to motivate change, enable harm reduction techniques, increase problem solving skills and ultimately reduce offending.
