Herefordshire Against Night Time Disorder (HAND)

Herefordshire Community Safety and Drugs Partnership uses an innovative scheme to cut alcohol related disorder in the county.

The Herefordshire Against Night Time Disorder (HAND) scheme, which was set up in 2004, is a joint initiative between county licensees and West Mercia Constabulary. It takes direct action against anyone getting involved in alcohol related disorder, either in pubs and clubs or outside on the streets.

The close partnership between the licensees and the police ensures that anyone banned from one participating business will automatically be banned from all those signed up to the scheme.

The scheme has been a great success in deterring trouble-makers and there are now there are 50 participating premises in Hereford City. The scheme also operates in Leominster, Kington and Ross-on-Wye.
