Many activities and services in Herefordshire would not be around, if it weren't for the thousands of volunteering hours, provided by hundreds of volunteers, who give up their time for free.
Whether working with children and young people, older people, disabled people, being a driver in a community transport scheme or providing skilled advice through an advice centre, volunteers contribute to the fabric of our communities.
Herefordshire Council has strong partnerships with many voluntary and community organisations in the County, and provides support in a number of ways - through funding and other more general advice and through a variety of grants schemes which supplement the activities and services provided by voluntary and community organisations.
The short answer is - in many places and organisations. There are hundreds of organisations in the County, which are always looking for volunteers, and you should find something that suits you. The easiest way to find out is to contact the two main Volunteering Centres:
In addition, Herefordshire Council have decided to join many other public and private employers in the country in enabling staff to take up to 2 days per year paid leave to work with and in voluntary and community organisations (as long as they are constituted bodies, e.g. Charities and benefit local people).
Over the coming weeks and months we will provide examples, provided by some of our partners in the voluntary and community sector of volunteering opportunities. This will be only a small selection of opportunities and will hopefully 'wet your appetite' to get involved in your community.
