Safer Herefordshire (Formerly Herefordshire Community Safety and Drugs Partnership) is a statutory, multi-agency partnership set up to tackle community safety and drug issues across the county. The Partnership aims to work together to make Herefordshire an even safer place to live, work and visit, focusing on education, prevention, enforcement and treatment.
Herefordshire is a very safe place, with some of the lowest crime rates in the country. However, in any area there will always be some improvements that can be made to increase community safety. Safer Herefordshire focuses on:
The following two subjects also fall into each of these categories:
Our current partner organisations are:
The 1998 Crime and Disorder Act placed a statutory duty on local authorities and the Police to act in co-operation with the Probation Service, Health Authorities and other relevant agencies, to work together to develop and implement a strategy for tackling crime and disorder in their area. This was later amended in the 2002 Police Reform Act to include the Police Authority, Fire Service and the Primary Care Trust.
So the Herefordshire Community Safety Partnership was established, which then merged with the Herefordshire Drug Action Team in 2004 to form the new Herefordshire Community Safety and Drugs Partnership.
However, in order to move with the changing times, it was decided in early 2009 that we needed to re-brand ourselves, so Safer Herefordshire was born.

The system will circulate a wide variety of information including Local Policing Team messages, urgent witness appeals and safety information such as flood alerts.
The messages will be sent to you via your chosen method, which includes E-Mail, telephone or text message completely free of charge. The scheme is generously funded by Herefordshire Neighbourhood Watch Association through National Lottery grants.
Acting Chief Inspector Bob Barnett from Hereford Police Station believes there are many benefits to the system. He said, "This system allows us to reach a large number of people across the county in a very short period of time and at a very low cost. We can not only circulate regular Police bulletins, but also important community messages, in the event of flooding or serious incident."
To join the scheme and receive up to date information, you can self-register at www.herefordshire-community-messaging.org.
