Each year the Division receives a number of complaints from the public regarding food which they have purchased and which they are dissatisfied with. This could be for a variety of reasons such as the presence of a foreign body (insect, piece of string, plastic, wood, metal or glass), mould growth, offensive odour or taste.
Investigations are carried out to try to establish where the problem occurred and to suggest measures which may prevent any future similar incidents.
If you have purchased food which you believe may not be fit for consumption or contains something that should not be present within it (or its packaging), you may feel that it is appropriate to inform either Environmental Health Commercial (EHC) or Trading Standards (TS). You are able to discuss the problem with an officer of the relevant Section, details will be taken and arrangements made to examine the food or possibly send it for analysis.
You may have come across premises or practices that have caused you to be concerned about the safety of food. You may feel that it is appropriate to inform Environmental Health Commercial (EHC). You are able to discuss the problem with an officer of the Section, details will be taken and arrangements made to visit the premises.
Whether the complaint is about Foodstuffs, Premises or Practices it will be investigated to determine whether or not the situation compromises safety and/or contravenes any relevant legislation and to take all reasonable steps to remedy any unsatisfactory situations. A range of options are available to us including legal action if it is felt appropriate.
